We see who’s back! The former Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Oxford United player returns to play for their League One opponents
Appleton has been appointed as the Addicks’ new head coach, following the sacking of Dean Holden at the end of last month.
Appleton has been out of work since leaving Blackpool in January as they struggled in the Championship.
The 47-year-old is now tasked with reviving Charlton’s fortunes after a slow start to the season.
He told the club’s official website:
“I am delighted to be appointed head coach of this proud and historic football club and would like to thank the owners, James Rodwell and Andy Scott, for placing their trust in me to lead lead the team.
“I will give everything to ensure the success of Charlton Athletic Football Club. To achieve this, we will all have to work together; players, staff and supporters, we all have a role to play.
“I’m excited to get started. I want us to develop a team that we’re all passionate about, never give up and always give our best. I want my players to enjoy playing for each other, express ourselves and feel comfortable the way we want to play. We want to build a winning mentality, starting now. Former Blues manager Danny Cowley has been offered the job, but it is Appleton who are the Londoners’ new owners, SE7 Partners.
“This is a competitive league and it takes time to get there, but the work has begun to reach the heights that this club and you as supporters deserve Okay.” Nothing will be taken for granted. We will all have to work harder and follow the team ethic if we want to achieve anything.
“I look forward to meeting everyone associated with the club in the coming days and weeks. We will listen, we will learn and we will strive to bring you something special and make you all proud.
Appleton takes charge of the Charlton side who train today – and is expected to return to Fratton Park when the Addicks visit on November 11.

Ferguson came through the youth ranks at Brighton & Hove Albion and she made her debut for the club last season. The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with the club earlier this summer.
With Brighton & Hove Albion’s strong recruitment drive this summer, Ferguson was unable to secure regular minutes this season and she will continue her development in the second tier with Blackburn Rovers.
Commenting on the decision to loan Ferguson out, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said: “This is a great opportunity for Chelsea to push themselves in an environment where they can compete for minutes. in a highly competitive tournament like the Premier League. Championship. “What’s important at this stage of her development is that she has the platform to grow through her matches and Blackburn provide a great framework for her to continue to progress. We wish her well.” Good luck to her and will be watching her progress throughout the season.
Ferguson could make his debut for Blackburn Rovers against Sheffield United at Ewood Park on Sunday.
