Former Dons assistant manager Luke Williams gave his thoughts after Saturday’s 1-1 draw.
Luke Williams said the 1-1 draw between MK Dons and his side Notts County was a great promotion for League Twofootball.
Although both teams dropped after the draw, it was a first versus second match at the start and this was especially evident in the second half when the two teams faced off.
Daniel Harvie’s third goal of the season came just 45 seconds into the second half to give the Dons the lead, before Kyle Cameron’s fine strike equalized for County.
Although strikers Macaulay Langstaff and Ellis Harrison both missed big chances in stoppage time, which would have surely given both teams victory, Williams said the match was still dramatic.
“It was a high-quality match for Ligue 2,” he said.
“It was like a heavyweight fight: no one wanted to throw a punch too hard lest we expose too much.
“MK Dons is very strong.
They have real quality, disciplined defense and when they counter-attack they terrify me.
“But I’m very happy with us.
We had a great away game against a high quality team.
I get frustrated when it comes to making money because it’s a lack of focus.
But we could never put this group away, we got back in the game and finished very strongly.
» Williams served as assistant manager to Russell Martin during his year and a half in charge and is no stranger to matches at Stadium MK.
After the match, he was hugged by Dons chairman Pete Winkelman and spoke at length about his time at the club and the emotions he had upon his return.
He say:
“It was so touching: I spent a lot of time here and many nights in hotels here!
I have a lot of links with the club, an excellent staff and players on the field.

I brought my family here with me, they were behind the goal with the black and white army, and it was amazing.
