Crystal Palace provide update on Roy Hodgson after former England manager ‘falls ill’
Crystal Palace announced that Roy Hodgson has recovered from illness and will return to training this weekend.
The 76-year-old manager fell ill last Saturday morning and subsequently missed his side’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa.
It is unclear why the former England manager was unwell, but fortunately his club issued a very positive update on Tuesday.
“We are delighted to confirm that Roy Hodgson took charge of Crystal Palace’s training session today,” an Eagles statement said.
“The manager was absent from Saturday’s match at Villa Park but will return to the training ground for Saturday’s match against Fulham at Selhurst Park.”
Hodgson will be looking to continue Palace’s strong start to the season against his former club, with the Eagles sitting ninth in the Premier League with seven points from five games. However, things are less positive on the injury front for the players, as it was also reported on Tuesday that star striker Michael Olise has struggled while recovering from a torn hamstring.
The winger, who was heavily linked with Chelsea during the summer, tore his hamstring while playing for the France Under-21 team in June but is expected to return to action in October.
But The Athletic claim he injured his hamstring last week and won’t return until the next international break, meaning he will miss the league and cup double big with Manchester United.
Adding to the worries of the South London team, compatriot Jordan Ayew may also be absent from the match against the Cottagers after being substituted in the first half against Villa due to an amputated leg.
This leaves Hodgson dangerously short of attacking options, with summer signing Matheus Franca still not fit to play. Luckily, he can count on Odsonne Edouard’s good form, as the striker has scored four goals so far, just ahead of Erling Haaland in the scoring charts.

When Odsonne Edouard put the Eagles ahead at Villa Park, it was not against the style of play and with four minutes remaining the visitors were still ahead.
In the end, the south London side were even denied a draw, as an 87th-minute equalizer was followed by two injury-time goals for the home team.
However the disappointment may have been evident, however, the news that their manager, Roy Hodgson, has health problems and is therefore not traveling will certainly have significant implications. much more important to the players and the club in general.
“We are delighted to confirm that Roy Hodgson took charge of Crystal Palace’s training session today,” it read. “The manager was absent from Saturday’s match at Villa Park but will return to the training ground for Saturday’s match against Fulham at Selhurst Park.”
This news will certainly be a huge boost for the first team and will likely give them a boost as they prepare for the London derby with the Cottagers.
Both teams are currently on seven points with identical records of two wins, one draw and two losses so far in their 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
Palace’s better goal difference allows them to start the game ahead of their opponents and Hodgson will do his best to ensure that is maintained.
