FC Blackpool:
The Second League One manager was sacked with Celtic legend Scott Brown leaving Fleetwood Town
Blackpool were scheduled to meet Fleetwood the following Saturday, but the match was postponed due to the number of international players called up to the Cods squad.
Brown, who has held the post since last summer, becomes the second League One manager to lose his job this season.
Dean Holden is the first after being sacked by Charlton Athletic last week.
Stefan Gartenmann aka Erik Sviatchenko became a salesman for his switching company Aberdeen.
The defender revealed that the former Celtic star had a big influence on his loan move from Midtjylland. They linked up during their time in Denmark and he moved to partner the Houston Dynamo defender when Barry Robson came calling on transfer deadline day. Gartenmann said:
“He told me great things about Scottish football. We are similar players so I hope I can integrate as well as him. He told me that Aberdeen is a good club.
The 26-year-old made his debut against Hearts last weekend before impressing as the Dons ran Eintracht Frankfurt close in Thursday’s Europa Conference League group opener. Gartenmann believes they had the much-fancied Germans on the ropes and the biggest disappointment was they didn’t fly home with something. He said: “There is no doubt it has been a tough start to the season.
“The performance on Thursday shows we have a really strong team. It showed how strong we are that we were sitting in the away dressing room in Frankfurt really disappointed we never took anything. We felt we should have taken something.
“Frankfurt are a top team and they were panicking a bit at the end. We had the momentum in the last 15 to 20 minutes. We can be really proud of our performance.”
The Bundesliga cracks made it out with a 2-1 victory after being pegged back and Gartenmann added: “We went in with the game plan to keep it tight as long as possible. We know we can’t compete with them for 90 minutes
“We needed to take our breaks, keep our shape and to frustrate them. It was really annoying to play against us and you saw for long spells they didn’t know how to play against us. We were really strong on the counter-attack and if we can put a little extra on the ball position, we can do really well.”
The Dane knows Aberdeen took a lot of praise for their performance but now they must translate it into points, starting with tomorrow’s home clash with Ross County and the Viaplay Cup return in Dingwall.
The centre-half said: “We have to do it against Ross County. You can say it is easy to get yourself up for the Frankfurt game in front of 50,000 people but if we can’t do it in front of our own fans against Ross County, then it doesn’t matter. We need to switch to domestic matters and to start winning games. Points matter now.”
Gartenmann believes Robson’s boys are now starting to show signs of progress as they hunt a first clean sheet in nine games against County.
He added: “We have some really good defenders in the team but we need to get to know each other. We can also put that aside as new players and getting to know each other. We should be good enough and professional enough to now have a solid base to build on. When that clean sheet comes, it will show we have come a long way.”
Gartenmann has demonstrated he is not one to shirk a physical encounter and believes the Scottish game will suit him perfectly. He said: “I love it here. It is very intense and physical.
“I am too and I am not the best-looking player. I like the duels, headers and tackles. I hope I can become a solid player for a long time.”
