Victor Osimhen has been named the man-of-the-match award winner for his excellent display during Napoli’s narrow 1-2 win at Braga on Wednesday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

Napoli defeated Braga of Portugal in their UEFA Champions League opening match in 2023–2024.

Sikou Niakate’s own goal gave the Serie A champions from Italy all three points after Braga’s Bruma had earlier cancelled out Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s opening goal for Napoli.

However, Osimhen was the focal point of many of the game’s greatest moments

The Super Eagles attacker nearly broke the score in the tenth minute with a spectacular header, but Matheus Magalhaes made an outstanding save.

Osimhen displayed pure flair with a deft turn and shot on the edge of the box midway through the first half, but his ferocious drive crashed against the crossbar.

Shortly after, the ex-Lille player won a penalty for Napoli, but the referee later overturned the call after consulting the VAR.

Osimhen contributed to Napoli’s opening goal by competing for the header that fell to captain Di Lorenzo, who finished with his left foot.

Despite not contributing to the scoring, the Nigerian striker was named the game’s best player after the match.

It should be remembered that Osimhen won the Serie A goal-scoring title the previous season after scoring 26 goals to help Napoli win their first Scudetto title in 33 years.
