Pittsburgh Steelers fans are fed up with offensive coordinator Matt Canada and want him gone

The Pittsburgh Steelers began a two-game winning streak today looking for a big win as 3-point favorites against the Texans. Instead, the team was defeated 30-6 and many believed offensive coordinator Matt Canada was to blame.

Steelers fans start chant calling to fire OC Matt Canada; Kenny Pickett says the team couldn't hear it - Behind the Steel Curtain

This isn’t the first time Steelers fans have wanted Matt Canada fired. Since he was hired before the 2021 season, Pittsburgh fans have rightfully complained about him.

They finished bottom in 2021 and 2022. Most wanted him fired after last season. He was retained, hoping that the second seasons of quarterback Kenny Pickett and wide receiver George Pickens and the signing of free agent WR Allen Robinson would help the offense.

He hasn’t. The team has totaled over 300 yards of offense just once and has yet to gain over 400 yards in a game under Matt Canada. It’s been 37 games and counting. Sunday’s loss to the Texans could be a new low. Houston has shown promise, but this is a game that both Vegas and the Steelers expect to win. Instead, the team placed an egg on both sides of the ball. The offense in particular was particularly bad.

Pittsburgh had just 225 offensive yards and 12 first downs, and couldn’t find the end zone all day. Pickett was horrible, throwing for just 114 yards on 23 attempts to go with one interception. And disaster struck when Matt Canada mysteriously called a shotgun pass on 4th-and-1 that had no chance and injured Kenny Pickett.

The calls for Matt Canada’s hiring are growing louder among most Pittsburgh fans and NFL observers.

“Matt Canada is a terrible combination of not only the worst player but also the most predictable player in the NFL,” said NFL expert Warren Sharp.
“Mike Tomlin needs to cut ties with Matt Canada’s experience. We know he’s not good enough. Goodbye change, have two weeks to make the necessary changes. Let’s spend the rest of 2023 seeing if Kenny Pickett can get close to the league average QB,” said Steelers_DB.

“Matt Canada is not going to fire himself. That’s why I’m bored of him. It starts at the top meaning Rooney/Tomlin. Who hired him? Who continues to keep it? It’s a 2. And it’s crippled this team for so long,” KevinAdams26 said. There are hundreds of other tweets like this. Almost everyone agrees. Matt Canada has to go.

HOUSTON – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans with a knee injury.

Pickett was fired when he broke out of his slump after failing 4th-and-1 from 33 to 1:
16 remaining in the third quarter. Pickett tried to escape the Texans’ pressure, moving away from the pressure and moving toward cornerback Jonathan Greenard, who was beyond rookie left tackle Broderick Jones.

Greenard wrapped himself around Pickett and turned him around. Pickett clutched his left knee behind the bag, waving his hands on the ground until the Steelers’ medical staff approached him.

Pickett, who completed 15 of 23 attempts for 114 yards with one interception, initially needed off-field help and wrapped his arms around athletic trainers for about half of the return bench.

He made his way to the blue medical tent the rest of the way, treading carefully. After being evaluated in the tent for more than five minutes, Pickett was officially ruled out with a knee injury and walked with the Steelers staff to the tunnel.
