According to doctor Rajpal Brar, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes may have a more serious problem than just a calf injury. The injury expert has reacted to Sean Dyche’s comments about the Portugal international, describing his absence as a “calf strain”.

However, the 30-year-old is not expected to miss any weeks because of this and it could even mean an Achilles concern, although this has not been confirmed.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a physiotherapist and sports scientist, said:

“Based on not playing this season, unless it’s a purely managerial decision, it looks like an obvious injury rather than just a tight calf.

Calf injuries are also notoriously fragile and susceptible to re-injury.

“The other thing to consider is that ‘calf’ can refer to the entire calf complex, including structures like the much more serious Achilles.
