The ex-Leeds United man has finally found a new club after leaving Elland Road in the summer
Former Leeds United youngster Stuart McKinstry will join Scottish side Queen’s Park, according to reports. McKinstry has been a free agent since being released by the Whites in the summer and has attracted interest from a number of lower league clubs in the EFL.
Gillingham and Wrexham have both been linked with the 21-year-old in recent months, but according to the Daily Record, he has decided that a return to Scotland is the best move for him at this stage of his career . So, reports claim that Queen’s Park have won the race for him after showing interest for a long time.
McKinstry spent last season on loan at boyhood club Motherwell, where he enjoyed a breakthrough season at senior level and worked his way up to the Scotland Under-21 international team. He made 20 appearances for the Scottish Premiership club, scoring four goals along the way, including one against Rangers.
Ultimately, however, his form north of the border was not enough to convince Leeds that he deserved a new contract at Elland Road and he was released in the summer. McKinstry has made two appearances for Leeds’ first team, both under Marcelo Bielsa in 2021.
The Scot made his debut for the Whites in the Carabao Cup win over Fulham before coming off the Premier League bench to represent Leeds at Tottenham Hotspur. McKinstry will now look to find more traction in his career with Queen’s Park, who finished third last season in the Scottish Championship and are now just three points away from the play-off places, despite having lost last 5 matches in a row. As reported by the Record, McKinstry is a fan of Robin Veldman’s side’s style of play and following their rapid rise through the Scottish leagues, the club has made major improvements.
