As the 2023-24 NHL regular season approaches, that means, among other things, so does fantasy hockey. Of course, it’s important to know which players

to draft, when to draft them, and in how many categories they can help your fantasy team. The Pittsburgh Penguins have several options in different

areas to provide that help. Here’s a quick guide for Penguins players to consider for your fantasy lineup.
Let’s get this out of the way:
Sidney Crosby remains a valuable fantasy option. The Penguins captain will compete in the first two rounds of most 10- or 12-team tournaments, and

he’ll earn you points as the season begins. Even as a 19-year veteran, Crosby would have scored at least 30 goals and 50 assists. And that’s just the beginning.

Penguins: 3 bold predictions for 2023-24 NHL season
As the leader of the Penguins, he’s guaranteed to play in any situation. He’s typically more of a monster when playing 5-on-5, but with the addition of

Erik Karlsson, who we’ll talk more about later, Crosby’s production should improve on the power play as well. In reality, a seventh career 100-point

season is not impossible. He is a player, he is capable and deserves a class of his own.
This is where many of the Penguins’ fantasy picks end up due to their injury history. First up is Erik Karlsson. With Karlsson, like Crosby, you know what

you’re getting:
is a high-octane producer on the blue line. Unfortunately, he could be a risky pick due to his sore ankle and Achilles tendon.

But when he’s in the lineup, he scores. A healthy Karlsson could be a good bet for 80 points or more, including about 30 points on the power play. His plus/minus has never been great, usually safely in the negatives, but his trade to the Penguins should help that number. However, you can sacrifice a column to get what it gives elsewhere. Trust him to leave soon and be among the first guards chosen.
Another penguin in this category is Evgeni Malkin. He is perhaps the biggest risk as he is generally expected to miss around 15 games. Last season was an anomaly. But like Karlsson, Malkin is still creative when in the lineup. Goals, assists, tee points:
, it’s all there. He creates more power plays than Crosby, so like Karlsson, expect a plus/minus shot. Grab him if he’s available in the fifth or sixth inning and pray he stays healthy.
Jake Guentzel appears here. Normally he’s healthy and capable of scoring around 40 goals and 75 points, but this season he’s a question mark after his

own ankle surgery. He was initially expected to be out until November, but his skating alone in camp inspired optimism. However, there is still a risk of

him getting off to a slow start as he recovers, but he is a solid option just outside the top 50 strikers.

Finally, there’s Tristan Jarry. Much ink has been spilled about his regularity and health problems. When healthy, he wins games and often has a

respectable save percentage (SV%). But he can also be brutal at times with goals against average (GAA) near 3.00 or higher and SV% under .900. He’s

also more valuable in rotational tournaments than head-to-head because from week to week, you don’t know what’s going to happen. He is just outside

the top 20 among goalkeepers and will be available until the middle rounds.
