Trevor Lawrence Injury Update Revealed Ahead of Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New Orleans Saints

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence injured his knee during Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts but is looking to play on Thursday night when the team takes on the New Orleans Saints. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Lawrence is believed to have avoided a major injury and will undergo an MRI. When speaking to reporters on Monday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Lawrence is “day to day” when asked about his status.

On Tuesday, Lawrence spoke to the media and said he’s going to do everything he can to play on Thursday, but a decision likely won’t be made until hours before kickoff. “I’m optimistic, but of course, we’re gonna have to make that decision Thursday and we’ll go from there,” Lawrence said, per NFL.com. “Right now is not the day to do that.”

Lawrence practiced on Tuesday in a limited role. “I’m gonna do everything I can to be out there,” he added. “I feel a lot better today than I would’ve thought, so I like how I’m progressing. I’m gonna do everything I can to be out there on Thursday.”

If Lawrence misses the game on Thursday, it would be the first time in his career he doesn’t play in an NFL regular season game. The 24-year-old QB was selected No. 1 overall by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft and has been the team’s starting quarterback since the start of the 2021 season.

Taylor Swift took over the NFL again as she attended the Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey Sunday night. The game was nationally televised on NBC, and the network did not shy away from showing Swift when it could. The Swift appearance led to big ratings for NBC as the game was watched by 27 million viewers, making it the most-watched Sunday program since the Super Bowl aired on Fox in February, according to NBC Sports.

Swift was at the game to support her rumored boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Before the game, NBC created a “Taylor Made for Sunday Night” promo, and it was viewed eight million times. As the game was being played, the female viewership increased, specifically among teenage girls as it spiked 53 percent from the season-to-date average for the first three weeks of Sunday Night Football.

This is the second consecutive week Swift attended a Chiefs game. Last week, the 12-time Grammy Award winner was at Arrowhead Stadium to see the Chiefs take on the Bears. The NFL loves the attention Swift is bringing, but there are a good amount of NFL fans who are ready to move on from the “Shake It Off” singer.

The New Orleans Saints have released quarterback Jake Luton after rookie quarterback Jake Haener returned from his suspension for violating the NFL’s PED policy. Luton spent the last season with New Orleans on the practice squad and even signed a future contract with the team in January. This news was reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero via Twitter.

In his career, Luton has amounted to just 624 passing yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. Before joining the Saints, he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars when he got drafted in 2020. He has been a part of the Saints practice squad since 2023 and has now been released by the team.

Luton played for the University of Idaho, Ventura CC, and Oregon State in college. Since joining the NFL in 2020, the quarterback has bounced around the league looking for opportunities. After his stint with the Jaguars, he has been with the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, and the New Orleans Saints. He went back to Jacksonville in 2022 but was once again released by the team.

Now with Luton released, it will be Jake Haener who will be running reps with the practice squad. When he was suspended by the league for his PED violation, the quarterback claimed that he did not know that he had violated the rule and had this statement released to the public:

“I recently learned that I tested positive for a substance banned by the NFL earlier this summer. I still do not know how the substance got into my body, as none of my supplements or prescribed medications contain the banned ingredient. I would never knowingly cheat the game that I love, however, I must take full responsibility for the failed test. I apologize to the Saints organization, my friends, and, my family for any distraction this suspension may cause. I am disappointed to be away from the team for the coming weeks, but I will learn and grow from this experience. I look forward to returning to the team as soon as possible.”
