Australian international Jackson Irvine has hailed the impact Jarrod Bowen has had since leaving Hull City for the Premier League in January 2020.

Bowen and Irvine played together for three years at the MKM Stadium. And Irvine, who now plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with St Pauli, says the talent at Bowen’s disposal was always visible at City.

Irvine came up against Bowen at Wembley on Friday night as the West Ham winger clocked up his fifth England cap in a 1-0 friendly win over the Aussies, with the Hammers now due to pay the Tigers’ former owners £1m as part of the £20m move which saw him move to East London.

Jarrod is probably the one I know best. We played over one hundred games together for Hull in the Championship. He was another one who you could see needed to go on to that next level to test himself,” the Australian told Sky Sports.

“The goals, the assists, and the end product was always there and at that level, that’s the major difference. The way he started this season, he was well deserving of his England call-up.

“That team that took to the field against us on Friday night, a lot of those players are in the form of their careers with Bowen and (Ollie) Watkins, the way they’ve started the Premier League season, that was the calibre of opposition that we’re up against especially the form of those individual players.

“For Jarrod, I know he’s just signed a new deal as well and for him, it’s an incredible time to be a part of the England setup and where he is with his club.”
