Clyde Edwards-Helaire, a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, had injuries in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints, and we can now identify them.
When Andy Reid addressed the media earlier today, Edwards-Helaire was still being assessed. Reid was unaware of any updates regarding the extent of the damage or if Edwards-Helaire would be subject to an injury reserve designation. Reid did mention that they would learn more later today, and it seems that the media has been informed.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Edwards-Helaire sustained a hip strain in addition to a high-ankle sprain. As these two injuries would imply that there aren’t any serious ligament rips, fractures, or anything like, this is truly the best-case scenario.
Additionally, Rapoport reported on Edwards-Helaire early this morning, and this update essentially confirms his earlier remarks. The Chiefs are optimistic that Edwards-Helaire will get another opportunity to play in the postseason. The rookie running back’s ability to return will mostly depend on the severity of his high-ankle sprain. He might miss three to eight weeks, depending on the severity of the sprain.
Given the situation, it’s uncertain if the Chiefs will decide to place Edwards-Helaire on injured reserve. If they want to proceed in this manner, it will happen later in the week because there were no transactions on Monday. The new injured reserve regulations would allow Edwards-Helaire to return after three weeks. But still,
