INTERVIEW Riccardo Di Trolio in the loss to Ipswich; and first team training experience

Riccardo Di Trolio has set his sights on the rest of the season after continuing to recover from an injury sustained in pre-season.
The young defender, who joined the club in January, spent most of the summer training with the Sky Blue Loodge first team but picked up an injury midway through the club’s pre-season tour in Prtugal Dental.
Returning from injury, Di Trolio played regularly for the Under-21 side but could not stop his side from losing 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Ipswich.
Riccardo, what do you think about this today?
It was a tough game, that’s for sure.
We didn’t start off great, too sloppy guys.
We’ll see.
But I think, at the end, we put in the work but just didn’t come away with the results today.
Do you think that’s where the game has lost, in that first half?
Not necessarily.
I think we could have been disappointed when we conceded two sloppy goals, but the work was not done at the end and it was too hot.
It’s not an excuse, but it affects both teams and we didn’t handle the ball enough.
How tough is it in these close to 30 degree conditions?
Riccardo Di Trolio
Yes, that is difficult.
You feel it when we warm up.
There are a lot of things on your body, yes.
How have you spent the first two months since arriving at the Club?
The boys welcomed me, so did John [Dempster] and Chris [Allen], and I love football here.
It was a pleasure to be a part of the first team coaching.
It was a great experience for me.
I didn’t expect it but I was also happy to be on the tour and it was a great experience.
I like to play with the best players, you know.
You learn a lot and you learn from the best, and that’s where you want to be at the end of the day.
Injuries come at a difficult time when you are on tour and want to impress.
How difficult was that and how is it happening now?
It was really tough, but I think I kept my faith.
I stayed strong and obviously to be out here now is a blessing.
I’m very happy with myself.
I think now I just want to get my head down, keep working hard, keep playing games and see where it leads.
