Nottingham Forest player Giulian Biancone will leave the club today
The defender had bad luck at Forest. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in training last October and has not played since.
Forest were linked with Biancone on loan earlier this summer. However, it is now increasingly clear that he will be gone for good.
The defender made one appearance for Team B in August when they drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough. However, he made a brief appearance in just one pre-season game under Steve Cooper this summer.
This ultimately makes a lot of sense. The Red Devils have struggled to get their players out permanently, instead opting to loan out a number of players.
While it’s better than nothing, it’s good to see Biancone get the chance to start his new chapter in Greece. This player is hungry to play football regularly and he should get that with Olympiacos. It’s hard not to feel sympathy for Biancone. He was adapting to life in England with replacement appearances, but disaster struck with his serious knee injury.
He has worked tirelessly to get back in shape and now he has to be on the field to get his injury checked and play football regularly.
Perhaps the last straw for Biancone came last month. He wasn’t even in the squad for the Carabao Cup match against Burnley; with Forest currently counting on Serge Aurier, Neco Williams and Gonzalo Montiel for the right-back positions. FIND OUT MORE
According to Football Insider, Forest will decide to tie up Aurier. It is believed that negotiations could take place before Tet to avoid foreign clubs entering into pre-contract negotiations with him.
Aurier has been in good form until the 2023/24 season. He scored both goals in the 2–1 win over Sheffield United and played in all of the club’s Premier League matches.
The 30-year-old was added to Forest’s ranks just over a year ago. He signed on a free transfer shortly after the summer transfer window closed.
Aurier made 28 appearances for Forest last season. He scored the only goal in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on New Year’s Day and helped the Red Devils preserve their place in the Premier League.
Very experienced player. He has played for Tottenham, PSG and Villarreal during his career, playing in the Champions League for all of these clubs. José Mourinho has praised Aurier during his career. He called him a “special person” when in charge of this player during his time at Tottenham; not only because of his playing ability but also because of the compliments about his personality.
This will definitely be a positive step in the right direction. Although Forest have Montiel and Williams, Aurier brings certain quality when the Reds play with a flat four.
Additionally, the experienced player can actually play as a right centre-back, as he did against Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
Steve Cooper clearly trusts Aurier as a player. He is still in good form and adding another year to his contract would certainly be a positive for Forest.
